The goal of the Open Directory Project (ODP) is to produce the most comprehensive directory of the Web by relying on a vast army of volunteer editors. As of Nov. 29, 2000, ODP had catalogued 2,201,294 sites, with links maintained by 31,926 volunteer editors in 323,163 subject categories. These numbers are rapidly increasing. The OPD not only searches its own huge catalogue, but it also links to a number of other major search engines, including Alta Vista, Infoseek, and Yahoo.
